Saudade
Privacy Policy
We built Saudade to be a quiet place. Its data practices are quiet too.

The short version. Saudade runs no ads, no third-party trackers, and no location collection. We count four anonymous things inside the app — nothing more, and never your writing. We do not sell your personal information or your private writing. We collect only what the app needs to give you an account, sync your own writing across your devices, know whether you have a subscription, and tell whether the app is working. If we ever introduce advertising, we will update this policy first and tell you what changes.
Who we are
Saudade is a daily-reflection app that offers one public-domain line a day and a private space to write. This policy explains what we collect, why, and your choices. If anything here is unclear, email hello@saudades.studio.
What we collect
- Account information. Your email address, and a display name if you choose to add one, when you create an account. If you use Sign in with Apple and choose to hide your email, we receive only Apple's private relay address.
- Your writing and activity. The journal entries you write, the lines you save, and which lines you've already seen. This is stored so your book follows you to a new phone and stays in sync across your devices.
- Subscription status. Whether you have an active subscription or trial. We do not receive or store your payment card, billing address, or Apple ID — Apple processes all payments.
- On-device data. Some of the above is also stored locally on your device so the app works offline.
- Four anonymous counts. So we can tell whether the app is working, we record four things and nothing else: that a daily line was shown, that the share button was tapped, that the subscription screen was shown (and which button opened it), and that a subscription was bought. Each one is stored with a random number generated when you install the app, the date, the app version, and whether you are on iOS or Android. That random number is never joined to your account, your email or your writing — it identifies an installation, not a person, and it is replaced if you delete and reinstall. We never record what any line said, what you wrote, or what you saved.
What we do not collect today
Beyond the four counts described above, Saudade uses no advertising or ad identifiers, no third-party analytics or marketing trackers, no location, and no contacts, and does not build an advertising profile of you. There is no Google Analytics, Meta pixel, Amplitude, Mixpanel or similar service in the app; the four counts are written to our own database and shared with no one. We do not track you across other companies' apps or websites. We do not sell or rent your private writing. If this ever changes — for example, if the app introduces advertising to stay sustainable — we will update this policy before it takes effect, disclose exactly what is collected and shared, and ask for your consent where the law requires it.
Notifications
If you turn on daily reminders, they are scheduled locally on your device. We do not collect a push token or send you marketing notifications.
Service providers
A few trusted providers process data on our behalf, only to run the app:
- Google Firebase — secure account sign-in and the database that stores your account and your writing. (Firebase privacy)
- RevenueCat — manages subscription status. It receives a random app-user identifier and your subscription state, never your payment details. (RevenueCat privacy)
- Apple — processes all purchases and, if you use it, Sign in with Apple. (Apple privacy)
How long we keep it
We keep your account and writing for as long as your account exists. When you delete your account, we delete the data associated with it from our database.
Your choices and rights
- Access or delete your data. You can delete your account from within the app, or email hello@saudades.studio and we will delete your account and associated data.
- Export. Your writing can be exported from the app as a plain-text book at any time.
- Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights (such as under GDPR or the CCPA) to access, correct, or delete your information. Email us and we'll honor them.
Children
Saudade is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.
Security
Data is encrypted in transit and stored with access controls so that only you (through your signed-in account) can read your writing. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we'll update the date above and, for material changes, note it in the app. Continued use after an update means you accept the revised policy.
